Meet Dr. Katalina Ramirez

Katalina Ramírez DDS, MS is a pediatric dentistry specialist. Dr. Ramírez attended the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, where she completed her residency in pediatric dentistry and earned a Master of Science in Dentistry in 1997.

After graduation, Dr. Ramírez has supplemented her dental career with an academic one. During her time in Minnesota, she performed first as a teaching assistant, worked as a pediatric dentist at the Community-University Health Care Center, and later as an assistant professor of pediatric dentistry for pre- and post-doctoral dental students at the University of Minnesota.

In California, Dr. Ramírez spent five years as an assistant professor of pediatric dentistry at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. Here, she taught pre-clinical laboratory for DDS candidates and conducted lecture series for students in the Doctor of Dental Surgery as well as Advanced Education in General Dentistry programs. Additionally, Dr. Ramírez served on the university’s Student Appeals Committee and the Student Academic Performance and Promotion Committee. The school acknowledged her accomplishments with two Honorific Recognition awards and the Incentive Dean’s Award.

Since 2003, children have visited Katalina Ramírez, DDS, MS, for dental care. She is dedicated to creating a positive environment that reduces stress for her patients and their parents. Dr. Ramírez is aware that children face unique issues and have different dental needs than adults. She is trained to provide dental care to pediatric patients, particularly patients with emotional, physical, and mental challenges. She educates patients and parents about preventive practices such as diet, hygiene, use of sealants, and fluoride that can help maintain dental health. Dr. Ramírez strives to create a peaceful atmosphere with gentleness and positive reinforcement.

Dr. Ramírez has published articles in the Journal of Dental Research and the Journal of the Academy of General Dentistry and has delivered educational lectures throughout her career. She has also volunteered her services and performed oral health screenings for children in underserved communities as well as provided testimony to the San Francisco Children and Families Commission.

Today, Dr. Ramírez focuses on providing the best dental care for pediatric patients. Aware of the sensitivities in children, especially when seeing a dentist for the first time, Dr. Ramírez manages patient behavior in a caring environment that features the use of televisions and individual headphones to engage children. Dr. Ramírez’s practice is located at the Marina Park Center in Redwood Shores, California.
